“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”-Romans 8:31 (ESV)
As a result of the fallen state of the world, human opposition is bound to block the most noble and just of causes. It can strike at any time and can come from anywhere while wearing many masks. Often when such opposition comes our way, we tend to lose our momentum and shrink back; thinking we’ve bitten off more than we can chew and consequently, we descend into hopelessness.
It is easy for opposition to get to us and it is easy for it to keep us under the oppressive spirit of defeat and discouragement. But in the wake of opposition God always provides a moment to critically evaluate ourselves and our intentions. Perhaps we have pursued the cause of justice by relying on our own human wisdom and not allowing God to do His work by directing our paths. God will always stand by a just cause because He is by nature just. However, we get easily discouraged and lose valuable time in regaining ground and continuing the fight when we do not have a strong rock on which to stand upon. If his idea of justice and truth is in line with the teachings of Jesus, the Christian has an invaluable ally in Christ; if only he calls upon His name. Only Christ can give the strength and wisdom to pursue truth and justice when it seems that the forces of evil and corruption in the world have overwhelmed such noble, God-given principles. The unscrupulous and corrupt seem to be victorious only for a time. But with God defending those who stand for righteousness and integrity, nothing can overcome them and it is they who shall have the final victory.
